Shark's Tooth Necklace ( Approx. 1 1/4")
Product #:
8002
Brand:
Marcia Caruso
Description:
OK ... lots of people are selling
shark's teeth
on the Internet. We've checked a lot of these sites and stand by what we have as being as good as anything you're going to find ... and ours are ready for you to slip on your neck and start wearing right away. Everything about these teeth is genuine. There are absolutely no color enhancements and every bit of information is authentic and accurate. Each of these necklaces was created by Marcia Caruso. They're the real deal! Every tooth was either found locally or in Mexico or purchased from reputable collectors with whom Marcia has been doing business for years.
They come in a variety of species and sizes, and they make interesting and unique necklaces.
Examples are for a Tiger Shark and Two Snaggle Tooth teeth. In the event the items shown in the photograph have been sold, we will deliver a similar size and quality necklace.
The first
shark’s teeth
are found in the fossil record about 375 million years ago, during the
Devonian Period
. The hard enamel teeth are the only body parts that survive the passage of time. There are some well-known collecting locations, including sites in Maryland, North Carolina, Florida and California. In Orange County, California, the teeth are usually 5 to 12 million years old (
Miocene Epoch
). Teeth of both modern and extinct species have been found, notably the giant
Great White
, whose 8 inch tooth could be from a 45 foot long shark. A giant
Mako
, over 20 feet long, could have had teeth exceeding 3 inches. The Snaggletooth Shark (Hemipristis Serra) leaves distinctive teeth but no living relatives. Although a shark may grow and shed thousands of teeth over a lifetime, the fossil hunter is fortunate to discover a well-preserved specimen.
